The Last Resort

Resort is a relatively unknown a few years ago in India, however with Lakme India Fashion introducing Resort wear lines. As the name suggests this line is designed specifically for holidays ( read St. Tropez or St. Barts) and hits stores before a little before the holiday season.
I love the understated glamour and easy chic vibe resort wear gives out.Unusual pairings have totally inspired me to reinvent my wardrobe. I'm taking a cue from Doo Ri's line (pic 1 ) by pairing a draped dress with a blazer. Textured skirt and jacket from Viktor and Rolf (pic 3) Coloured pop jackets and shorts from Dsquared (pic 5) Sleek minimalism from Celine. God bless you Pheobe! Colour blocking seen at Moschino , florals on florals at Kenzo and lastly my favourite collection has to be Jason Wu and the opening look, a white blouse buttoned to the top and shorts so effortless so fab!

Freida Pinto for GQ (US) by Marc Hom

India's biggest export to the West Freida Pinto has landed another editorial for a magazine, this time GQ. Do I think it's her best one? Nope, but this girl is going places and we have to commend her for this instead of proclaiming that she looks like a bai .Atleast she doesn't have a LA meets London meets Bombay accent!

STOP!

For the past few weeks, fashion has been making headlines all over India. First it was the couture week, then men's fashion week, then next I heard was Kolkata couture week. Excuse me? Kolkata fashion week and Lakme Fashion week trundling along later with the major coup d'etat they was roping in Manish Arora who showed us a stale collection already viewed in France. In another few days HDIL will host Spring/Summer 2011. All these incessant shows must end. As much as we like to pride ourselves in having fashion weeks, sitting front row and having "international" buyers this has to stop.
Can we consider the above design even something remotely connected to fashion? It's a disgraceful dress something I would imagine a drag queen to wear.
We need to get our act together, make sure we get our seasons right. Drop these multiple fashion weeks and by no account should we do couture. The term 'Haute Couture' is copyrighted. Only those members who belong to the chamber can produce Hatue Couture collections. Why must we copy a french title? Don't Indian designers earn their money from custom made gowns and employ people in their ateliers? Talented people like Nachiket Barve don't get due credit owing to crappy so called designers such as Manish Malhotra and Neeta Lulla who obviously know that innovation is not a word in their dictionary.
Indian fashion ought to change, get a proper council and get your act together.

Tom Ford IS BACK! part Deux

When I read this on wwd, I couldn't contain myself. Never had such a fashion moment elicited such excitement from me. The reason? Tom Ford is giving us a sneak peak of his upcoming fall/winter 2011 collection at this time's Fashion Night Out. I would love to see what Tom Ford brings back to the table unattached to any design house. Watch this space for more...

ps: Tom Ford is launching his first outlet in India at The Collective Delhi. I hope his lipstick range follows here...
